Pennhurst Insane Asylums 

In this portfolio, you will see the aftermath of confinement. The subjects of these pictures are abandoned facilities that once contained the society's outcasts. Subjects like this don't always get the attention that something "naturally beautiful" or "abstractly appealing" would. The walls of the rooms and buildings are either gone or peeling away. The buildings are cracking and have a new life growing up them. Windows are either blown out or broken. Decades worth of furniture sits in the same place day after day. Each picture has its own, completely different story to it and I wanted to capture the pure desperation, longing, and loneliness in each place. The people that were in these places prior to this deterioration suffered greatly both mentally and physically. These are not just abandoned buildings, they are the past that has so many different voices trapped inside with no one there to listen.
